If Clay only had one fishing lure to use the rest of his life — and he needed it to survive.

A "Fluke" or soft plastic "Jerkbait"

There is only one fishing lure I would choose if I was stranded on a desert island or in the wilderness with lakes and that is the fluke-style bait (also called a “jerkbait”)

The bait can be fished in a multitude of different ways — including weightless, weedless, on a jighead, dropshot, and many other ways…

I personally have caught these fish on a fluke-style soft plastic bait.

  • Redfish (red drum)
  • Speckled sea trout
  • Sheepshead
  • Largemouth Bass
  • Tarpon
  • Spanish Mackerel
  • Bluefish
  • Snook
  • Spotted bass
  • Catfish
  • Black drum
  • Mangrove snapper
  • Ladyfish

It is a versatile lure that mimics the action of a baitfish. So, many types of fish are attracted to it. If I had to pick one lure to try to survive and feed myself with, it would be a fluke/jerkbait.
